The Talking Dog

November 7, 2004, Mission accomplished

In my case, completing the preposterous "two marathons on two consecutive weekends", that featured a 5:55 (and still alive) finish in Washington, D.C.'s Marine Corps Marathon, and today, completing what appears to be the fastest marathon I have run since I was 19, with today's ING New York City Marathon finish in a shade under 5 hours, 4 minutes. Many thanks to Mrs. TD and the Loquacious Pup, for cheering us on in Brooklyn, TD friend Paul for cheering us on in Queens, and Mr. Crabcakes for coming out in Manhattan (and buying your talking dog a much needed bottle of cold Gatorade).

In contrast to the more bi-partisan spirit in our nation's capital last week, this week many runners featured tags on their backs that said "No Mandate", and in the case of one lovely female competitor, "Mandate My Ass" written, well... I'll leave that to your imagination.

You omitted mentioning me again TD. First with the Russky Dog, and now you ignore my assistance to you in today's marathon. I was the one who offered you a towel to dry your face. Of course, now I have a DNA sample. Hey, we can clone the TD, so you could have a Chinese TD, Dutch TD, and even Zulu TD. With evil, all things are possible.

Way to go, dude.

If Hassan Bar Sinister gives you any trouble, let me know. I'll take care of it. (This Thing of Ours, all that)

Well done. It's a pity ABC News didn't cover your finish as well as it did Paula Radcliffe's. ;)

Excellent job, TD, and a most impressive finishing time.
At least now I understand why you had "Mandate This" printed on the front of your shorts.
And that Hassan guy---He scares me.

Congratulations, TD! Did you lose another 11 pounds?

Posted by mamayo at November 8, 2004 3:16 PM

As Mr. Crabcake and Mrs. TD will attest, I did not lose any significant weight; I'm about a pound more than I was when I finished the Marine Corps Marathon last week.

Marathoning is not particularly good for weight loss. I may have to resort to my law school era cottage cheese, grapefruit juice and blueberries diet.

Otherwise, if I keep up improving by 52 minutes off my team each week, in 3 or 4 weeks, I'll have the world record!!!

I stay away for a few days and a cockroach appears. Do you seriously think Mr. Ware that the collective brain power of "This Thing of Ours" could light a 2 watt bulb? As opposed to the global oligarchy of which I am a part? Better that you buy a cardigan sweater and start a rose garden.

Jebus, Hassan-- both you and Kim don't seem to have been right since the election. Maybe you both should take a few days at Bernie Z.'s villa in Cuba...
