And now... News from the Escalation
It seems that the Pentagon has overruled the Army on its longstanding policy of not recalling National Guard units that had served in Iraq until they were stateside at least five years... Sorry, guys and gals of the National Guard and Reserves... We know you might prefer to stay here with your families, your homes and your regular jobs... but you'all know that the President's ego and refusal to admit that he has created a hash (and his, or his Saudi clients' insistence on squeezing out the last possible ounce of your blood in service of Saudi oil and oil price hegemony) now dictates that you be called back into action.
It's your patriotic duty. Don't worry: many of us will show you'all our support by buying new magnets that say "Support our troops" (and rooting against those defeatist bastards at the Associated Press.)
So... you have our gratitude.

I could probably cough up $1.49 for a yellow ribbon. Thanks, guys and gals of the U.S. military. Sorry our commander-in-chief is such a tool.

TD, I had to come out of semi-retirement (as to posting) to address this one. Why do you think your government works for the Saudis? Do you really think the mightiest nation on the planet would really kowtow to them? Why do you fall into the trap of making the Saudis the only bad guys, when in actuality, it is a broad-based international group of energy monopolists? C'mon. You just cost me $6,000,000 in lost profits for the time it took me to post this.

The correct term is oligopolists. And I understand that higher (and more stable and higher) prices benefit all OPEC members, not just Saudi Arabia (not to mention oil companies, of course). Saudi Arabia just happens to be, by far, the country that exports the most oil, and the country that happens to benefit the most from keeping Iraqi oil under Iraq... but you are certainly right; it is hardly the only beneficiary. So... mybad.
(BTW, if that post cost you only $6M, you must have lowered your rates since last we talked about them.)
